Inverewe Gardens

Cared for by the National Trust for Scotland, discover a world of botanicals in the award-winning 50 acres of Inverewe Gardens. Created by Osgood Mackenzie in 1862, the gardens are quite exceptional as their location enables them to benefit from a mild climate all year round due to the warming effect of the Gulf Stream. As a result, a surprising range of exotic plants grow there, as well as temperate flora from the North and South Hemispheres. The garden is a riot of colour from spring through to late autumn and is known for it’s displays of rhododendrons, it’s exquisite Walled Garden and lush woodland trails. Inverewe House opened to the public in 2016 after a two-million-pound restoration by the National Trust. Here you explore the history of the garden, discover the origins of the plants and the challenges of gardening on the edge.
