Our first stop off the day, the beautiful Dunrobin Castle. Dating from the 1300’s, the 189-room castle resembles a French Chateau and contains an impressive and rich collection of fine furniture, paintings, tapestries, and objects d’art. The gardens are set within the Great Park to the front of the castle and overlook the sea. The beautiful Victorian gardens have changed little in the last 150 years, explore the Walled Garden, manicured parterres, classical fountains, and stunning floral displays. Within the garden discover the museum, originally built as a summerhouse in 1762 by William, 16th Earl of Sutherland and a treasure trove of antiquities and collectibles from all over the world. Watch the superb falconry displays in the gardens, featuring golden eagles and peregrine falcons, both of which are resident in the Scottish Highlands. We leave the Castle and travel a short distance back along the coast to the charming and historic town of Dornoch.
Stopping for lunch, you will be able to explore the shops and cafés as well as the historic Jailhouse. The Cathedral where Madonna and Guy Ritchie were married is certainly worth a visit too. Departing from Dornoch we make a brief stop at what the locals affectionately call “Millionaire’s View” to witness the stunning 360-degree views of the Dornoch Firth, Dornoch Bridge, and the wonderful views across the water to the Mountains of Sutherland.
Our final stop of the day is to the world famous “Glenmorangie Distillery”. Take in a tour to discover how the Whisky is created and sample a wee drop of the “Water of Life” for yourself followed by a leisurely drive back to your destination to complete a very enjoyable day.
