Created by Osgood Mackenzie in 1862, the gardens are quite exceptional as their location enables them to benefit from a mild climate all year round due to the warming effect of the Gulf Stream. As a result, a surprising range of exotic plants grow there, as well as temperate flora from the North and South Hemispheres.
The garden is a riot of colour from spring through to late autumn and is known for its displays of rhododendrons, its exquisite Walled Garden and lush woodland trails.
Inverewe House opened to the public in 2016 after a two-million-pound restoration by the National Trust. Here you explore the history of the garden, discover the origins of the plants and the challenges of gardening on the edge.

Durnamuck
A private garden located on the edge of little Loch Broom, a true plantsman’s paradise. We meet with the owners to discover this “little jewel of a garden”. Free draining raised beds and borders cope with the damp Gulf Stream climate to allow a rich mix of herbaceous planting to include South African and Mediterranean species, specimen trees and a wildflower meadow. Set within the borrowed panoramic views of the dramatic sea loch and mountain landscapes this garden is a pure joy. Many of the plants have been collected from around the world by the owners, both of whom are professionally trained gardeners.
